Frequently Asked Questions

We understand you may have questions about our services and practice. Browse through our frequently asked questions below to learn more about what we offer and how we can help you on your path to wellness.
What should I bring with me to my initial appointment?
Upon booking your consultation, you will be emailed a patient portal link as well as new patient intake forms and consents. We ask that you kindly complete all of the forms 48 hours before your appointment. This allows your provider to review your information in advance and maximizes the value of your visit. If you are not able to complete the intake forms, please bring your medical history and a complete list of medications, allergies, and any supplements that you are taking and arrive 30 minutes early to complete the paperwork in the office. This will avoid losing valuable time from your consultation. Feel free to upload any documents or prior test results through the patient portal. Regardless of the reason for your appointment, if you would like to optimize your skincare routine, please let us know about any skin care products that you are using.
What is your cancellation policy?
For all appointments, we require 2 Business Days (48 hours) notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment. For example, if your consultation is on Monday at 9:30 AM, please call us anytime before Thursday of the prior week at 9:30 AM. Any changes or cancellations made inside of the 48 hour window will result in you being charged for the full visit amount. This is due to the extended length of both initial and follow up consultations, and the time each provider puts into preparing for your appointment. If you are unable to contact us due to an emergency, please focus on your health and safety first and let us know as soon as you are able.
Can you be my primary care provider (PCP)?
Unfortunately, no. Alcove Integrative Medicine is not a primary care practice. Your primary care provider is an essential member of your healthcare team, providing you with annual screening, in network referrals, and urgent care resources. We provide you with specialized care through integrative and functional medicine, as well as aesthetics. We will work with your primary care and specialist providers and can communicate with them about your care with your consent.
Do you accept insurance?
No, we do not accept insurance. However, many of the diagnostic tests that we order may be covered. We do our best to reduce the financial burden on our patients by only doing testing when absolutely necessary and will discuss pricing and alternatives with you. We can provide you with diagnosis and visit codes to submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. Just ask us for an itemized receipt after your visit for this purpose. All benefits are specific to each insurance policy, therefore we recommend that you call to find out your specific plan’s coverage details. You will be responsible for submitting the information to your insurance plan, and you will be directly reimbursed if you have this benefit.
Why don’t you accept insurance?
We provide you with care that is not valued by insurance plans: care that is comprehensive in time, support, and counseling. We are committed to spending the time with you that is required to give you the best care possible. Providers that accept insurance are forced to make up the low reimbursement rates through volume, and that means seeing 20-30 or more patients a day for 15-20 minutes per visit, contributing to growing rates of provider burnout, poor morale, personnel shortages, and even suicide. In addition, a significant portion of your insurance premium goes towards paying for the billing system infrastructure and insurance company costs, not direct healthcare that benefits you. We all deserve better! You deserve the care we were trained to give you–why we became healthcare providers in the first place. Together, we can revitalize our failing healthcare system through a fee for service model that focuses on wellness and prevention of disease, with insurance coverage limited to emergency and hospital care and for elderly and disabled persons. Creative visit structures and volunteerism can help provide care to underserved populations. Join us in our vision to change the face of healthcare!
